COVID-19 updates for sleeping in Slovenian mountain huts
Slovenia is a mountaineering paradise. It has more than 10,000 km of mountain trails leading to 179 mountain huts and shelters. Since July 15th, certain rules to contain the spread of coronavirus are in place in all Slovenian huts.

- If you plan to sleep at a mountain hut, call the warden or write him/her on hut e-mail address beforehand and make a reservation. Fourteen Slovenian mountain huts are currently using the online reservation system. For other huts, please call the warden and make your reservation by phone.
- At the moment there are no special regulations or restrictions regarding COVID-19 situation in Slovenia.
Basic guidelines for staying safe in the mountains:
- Carefully plan your outing.
- Wear a rucksack packed with all the required gear.
- Take your time and start with lower and easier objectives before moving on to higher and more difficult ones. Don't make Triglav your first outing of the season. Instead, save it for later in the summer when you'll be fitter and better prepared.
- You can get plenty of great food and drinks at the huts, so pack your rucksack with only a small lunch and something to drink.
- Wear light hiking shoes designed for summer use. High-cut (or mid-cut) shoes are the best option, especially if you're not very experienced.
- Head out early (at four or five in the morning) to avoid summer thunderstorms.

- Bring your trash back to the valley and dispose of it properly.
- Do not disturb the animals grazing on mountain pastures. Keep a safe distance. If you have a dog, keep it on a leash.
- Turn around if you come across a broken steel rope or a damaged, unsafe section of the path, if you feel unwell, or if you're just having a bad day. Sit down, have a little rest, absorb the nature that surrounds you, and return to the valley with a smile on your face. If you lose your way, return to the last waymark.
